Runway Ads Alternative: What Small Teams and Agencies Can Use While Access Is Limited

If you're looking for a Runway Ads alternative, it's probably because you can't get in. Runway announced Runway Ads on September 30, 2026: it generates ads, publishes the variants you approve to Meta, Google and TikTok, reads the results back and makes the next round. Today it's a pilot with select enterprise partners, with no self-serve sign-up and no published price. If you're a direct-to-consumer (DTC) brand with a paid-social budget or a performance-creative agency, you need new creative this week, not after a sales call.

This post sorts your options by the job you actually need done, says where each one fits (including Runway's own Agent), and ends with a plain recommendation. For the full breakdown of what Runway Ads is, see Runway Ads explained.

First, name the job

Runway Ads bundles four jobs into one loop:

  1. Making new creative (video and image variants).
  2. Approving it (brand check, then a person).
  3. Publishing it and moving budget between variants.
  4. Reading results and feeding them into the next round.

Most teams already cover jobs 2 to 4. Your ads manager publishes and shifts budget, your reporting reads results, and someone on the team approves. The gap is usually job 1: enough new versions of what's working, before it wears out. Winning ads fatigue fast on TikTok (why a winner dies in days), and the volume you need climbs with spend (how many creatives per week).

So before you pick a tool, decide whether you need the whole loop or just faster creative.

Option 1: Request the Runway Ads pilot anyway

Fits: brands and agencies with enterprise budget who want generation, approval, publishing and budget shifting in one system.

The product page names DTC brands, ecommerce, mobile apps and agencies as intended users, so asking costs you a form. You request early access and Runway's Enterprise Sales team follows up. The product page says the pilot runs "ahead of a wider rollout" but gives no date; press (Superpower Daily) reports wider access "in the coming weeks".

What to weigh: the price, the models it uses and any customer results are not published, and Runway's reported results (77 to roughly 900 ads a week, return on ad spend (ROAS) doubled, cost per subscriber down 41%) come from Runway's own campaigns. If the closed loop is what you want, Runtimewire names Omneky, Google Ads and Meta's AI tools as the competitive context, so those are worth putting through the same questions. If you'd rather have an AI agent work inside the ad accounts directly, we compared Meta's and TikTok's official ads MCP servers.

Option 2: Runway Agent, available today

Fits: teams who want Runway now, like starting from a brief or a product photo, and don't mind moving numbers and files by hand.

Runway Agent is self-serve. It's listed on the Standard ($15 a month, or $12 billed yearly), Pro and Max plans; the Free plan doesn't include it, and the Team plan adds Agent Connectors and shared agent skills. For ad work, Runway's Agent pages describe:

  • Going from an idea to a finished, ready-to-publish video in a chat, including scenes, voiceover, dialogue and music.
  • Uploading your creative plus ad metrics from Meta, YouTube, TikTok or Google so Agent can analyze them (added in Agent 2.0, June 2026).
  • Automatic 9:16, 16:9 and 1:1 cuts, and localized copy and visuals.
  • A choice of models picked automatically per task, including Gen-4.5, Aleph 2.0, Seedance 2.5, Nano Banana Pro and Kling 3.0 Pro.

Separately from Agent, Runway also has an MCP integration for generating inside ChatGPT and Claude, and a UGC-ads use-case page (9:16 phone-shot-style video from a product photo and description, batches of hook variations for A/B tests).

The trade-off is that you are the connection to your ad accounts. You export metrics, upload them, take the new assets and launch them yourself. That's the part Runway Ads automates. Generation is billed in credits (Gen-4.5 is 60 credits per 5 seconds, for example), and we couldn't confirm from Runway's pages how many credits an Agent conversation itself uses.

Option 3: Riffkit, for new versions of an ad that already won

Fits: brands and agencies who already have a winning ad and need new versions of it this week, keeping what made it work.

Riffkit starts from a short video that already won: your own ad as an upload, a TikTok link, or a template from its library (sources up to 45 seconds). It analyzes why the video worked (the hook, the pacing, the beats) and generates brand-new footage. It never re-uploads the source clip, and you get full commercial rights to what you make. Two modes cover the two usual requests:

  • Swap keeps the shots, camera and action and changes the person, the product or the details. Use it when the ad won and you need it with a different face, the new SKU, or a different setting.
  • Adapt keeps the formula and tells a new story for your product. Use it on a winning video from outside your account, like a viral post in your niche or a format you've seen working for others (how that works for ads you've seen winning).

What helps an ad team in particular:

  • Batches. Run one template with several characters at once, which is how you test audience angles without booking a creator per angle (the method).
  • Placements. Each finished video can be reframed to 9:16, 1:1 and 4:5. It's re-rendered for the new shape, not cropped (one winner, every placement).
  • Languages. Nine languages generated natively: English, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, German, French, Italian, Japanese and Simplified Chinese.
  • Agent-friendly. Agencies working in Claude Code, Codex or Cursor can use the Riffkit skill: the agent calls Riffkit's API from chat, so one sentence like "make my version of this winning video for my product" starts the render.

Billing is per second of finished video, in credits, and failed renders aren't charged. Plans are Lite $15 a month, Creator $39 and Studio $99 (or $12, $29 and $79 a month billed yearly). On a monthly plan, a 15-second video costs about $2.70 to $3.00 on MiniMax H3 and about $6.75 to $7.50 on Seedance 2.0 at 720p, depending on the plan. New accounts get free credits to try it, no card needed.

What Riffkit doesn't do: it doesn't connect to your ad accounts, launch ads, measure them or read your performance data, and it doesn't make static image ads or carousels. You pick the winner from your own reporting and upload the new versions yourself.

A weekly workflow that doesn't wait for a pilot

  1. Pick this week's winner in your ads manager. Judge it on break-even cost per acquisition (CPA), not ROAS alone (why).
  2. Decide what changes: the person, the product, the language or the angle. Keep everything else.
  3. Make the versions in Riffkit. Swap for your own ad; batch several characters for audience angles.
  4. Reframe the keepers to 4:5 and 1:1 for Meta placements.
  5. Upload and launch in Meta or TikTok yourself, with your usual budgets.
  6. Next week, repeat with whatever won.

This covers job 1 and leaves jobs 2 to 4 where they already live.

Which should you pick?

  • If you have enterprise budget and want generation, publishing and budget shifting in one loop, request Runway Ads and ask for the price, models and customer results up front.
  • If you want to start from a brief or a product photo, like having many models in one chat, and don't mind moving metrics and files by hand, use Runway Agent.
  • If you already have a winning ad and need new versions of it this week (a new face, product, language or placement) that keep the hook and structure, use Riffkit, then launch them in your own ad accounts.
  • If what you need is automation inside the ad accounts more than new creative, look at the platforms' own tools and official ads MCP servers.

These aren't exclusive. Plenty of teams will end up making versions in one tool and running them in their own ads manager, whichever loop they adopt later.

FAQ

What can I use instead of Runway Ads?

It depends on the job. If you want the full loop of generating, publishing and shifting budget, request the Runway Ads pilot or compare the platforms' own AI tools. If you want Runway today, Runway Agent is self-serve on the Standard ($15 a month), Pro and Max plans, with metrics and files moved by hand. If you need new versions of an ad that already won, Riffkit remakes it with a new person, product, language or placement, and you launch it yourself.

Is Runway Agent a good alternative to Runway Ads for small teams?

It fits if you want to start from a brief or a product photo and don't mind being the link to your ad accounts. Runway Agent is included on Runway's Standard, Pro and Max plans (the Team plan adds Agent Connectors and shared agent skills); you can upload ad metrics from Meta, YouTube, TikTok or Google for it to analyze, and it cuts 9:16, 16:9 and 1:1 versions. Unlike Runway Ads, it does not publish to ad accounts or read results back automatically.

What AI tool can make new versions of my winning ad?

Riffkit starts from a short video that already won (an upload, a TikTok link or a template, up to 45 seconds), analyzes its hook, pacing and beats, and generates brand-new footage. Swap mode keeps the shots, camera and action and changes the person, product or details; Adapt mode keeps the formula and tells a new story for your product.

Does Riffkit publish ads to Meta or TikTok?

No. Riffkit does not connect to ad accounts, launch or measure ads, or read ad performance data, and it does not make static image ads or carousels. You choose the winner from your own reporting, make new versions in Riffkit, and upload them to Meta or TikTok yourself.

How much does Riffkit cost per ad video?

Riffkit bills per second of finished video in credits, and failed renders are not charged. Plans are Lite $15, Creator $39 and Studio $99 a month ($12, $29 and $79 a month billed yearly). On a monthly plan a 15-second video costs about $2.70 to $3.00 on MiniMax H3 and about $6.75 to $7.50 on Seedance 2.0 at 720p, depending on the plan. New accounts get free credits, no card needed.

Can agencies use Riffkit from Claude Code or Cursor?

Yes. Riffkit is available as a skill for AI coding agents including Claude Code, Codex and Cursor, at riffkit.ai/skill. The agent calls Riffkit's API from chat, so one sentence such as "make my version of this winning video for my product" starts the render.

When will Runway Ads be available to everyone?

Runway has not announced a date. Its product page says it is piloting Runway Ads with select enterprise partners ahead of a wider rollout and offers an early-access request form; press (Superpower Daily) reports wider access in the coming weeks, which Runway's own announcement does not state. Pricing for Runway Ads is also not published.
